Information from the Valuation Rolls for the County of Kincardine
The earliest Valuation Roll for the County of
Kincardine still extant is the one for 1862/63 and it shows a continuous sequence of numbered houses 1 to 50. Although numbers 10 and 13 are missing, there are additional entries for 5½ and 23½.
All the houses were owned by a London-based proprietor and rented out to the fishermen by a local agent.
In 1874, the houses were numbered 1 – 57, but there were 62 tenants; extra entries of 4A, 5A, 15A,
19A and 23A.
In 1891, the houses were numbered 1 – 58, but there were no entries for numbers 4, 8, 16, 26, 28 and 53.
In 1904, numbers 2, 7, 10 and 12 were said to be ruinous.
In 1922, the sequence
of numbers changed to two separate groups, those still rented out by a single proprietor, roughly about half, and the others which had new individual owner/occupiers.
In 1924, numbers 2 and 7 were still noted as
ruinous, but 10 and 12 were occupied. There were no entries for 4, 8, 16, 26, 53 and 54, and 28 was by that time a reading and club room.
In 1935, there were no entries for 4, 8, 16, 18, 26, 31, 53 and 54.
In 1967, there were no entries for 2, 4, 7, 8, 16, 26, 53 and 54.
In 1968, when the new system of street names and numbers came into
being, all the old Skateraw Village numbers were accounted for in the seven streets detailed on the attached document. See below.
